(Thalia is the second closest planet to the star Ciro. Thalia was the first candidate chosen for extraplanetary exploration because it is relatively close, but it's not too big and encounters are surprisingly frequent.
Since the Tanker is the only thing with any RCS, it was the only way short of launching everything at once. The Lander and Refueler came up together, and the Tanker came up on its own.
The middle section is a refueler, and the top is basically just a large autonomous fuel slug to keep everything topped off. Unfortunately, there was a slight complication. This thing makes Gilly look gargantuan! Orbital velocity was about 15 m/s and its gravity well was only a couple of kilometers above the surface. Success! It literally took every last drop of fuel in my tanks (I'd expected to have about 16 m/s left for maneuvering) but I managed to get a tiny, tiny orbit around Lili. I decided to use what was left of the delta-v to try and orbit it. You can see it there, just to the right of the probe. Tellumo has one more little secret: A tiny planet (or large asteroid) called Lili that's orbiting in the rings. I did a plane-change to get a better look at the rings, which ate up like 80 percent of the delta-v left on the probe. Again, if not for the ridiculous delta-v requirements it'd be a pretty decent place to set up shop. You'll also notice it has rings! I entered in a polar orbit to get a scan of the available resources and such. At some point I'll likely send some sort of airplane-styled probe to send back data on a few of its several biomes. Other than that, it's quite habitable, with water oceans and an oxygen/nitrogen atmosphere. I sent it to Tellumo, which is a super-Kerbin, with over 5 times its mass.

I've used the mod plenty but it's the crazy science costs (using community tech tree) that kept me from using those engines, not the thrust. Lots of them even have toggles to increase thrust at the cost of ISP. There are lots of engines with better TWRs than ions, they're just jammed at the very end of the tree, cost all the moneys, and suck down insane amounts of electricity, so you're almost required to use nuclear reactors. Near future Propulsion does have a lot of ion style drives, but it's really about electric drives.

I suppose I could install both, though that means even further complexity still. On the other hand, I was also thinking I might install Deep Freeze so I wouldn't have to worry about keeping my Kerbals fed on the long trips, which suits NFT better.

I was inclined to use Interstellar because I'm using USI-LS and colonization mods and being able to get places quickly at the endgame means less risk of dead Kerbals. NFT is great and more realistic, but the fact that it's all ion drives and ion drives mean hour long burns kinda makes me sad. Interstellar has a lot of cool stuff but its complexity was through the roof when I last used it, and I'd be astounded if if were any less so now. I've got most of the mods ready to go but I'm trying to decide if I should go for Interstellar (which I haven't touched since the days of Scott Manley's Interstellar Quest series) or Near Future Tech (which I've used somewhat more recently).
